GIS Tech Center conducts Building Resilience through Open Mapping Tools Training

The Building Resilience through Open Mapping Tools training was successfully conducted from February 18-21, 2025, at the GIS Laboratory, Southern Leyte State University. This training served as an extension activity of SLSU, led by the GIS Tech Center of the Faculty of Computer Studies and Information Technology, aimed to equip municipal personnel of LGU Pintuyan with GIS and open mapping skills essential for their Comprehensive Land Use Planning and Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome message from Dr. Czarina Ancella G. Gabi, Dean of FCSIT, followed by an inspirational message from Adelfa C. Diola, Director of Extension Services. Moncher A. Bardos, MPDC of LGU Pintuyan, then delivered a statement of purpose, setting the tone for the training. Participants engaged in insightful discussions and hands-on workshops led by resource speakers from the GIS Tech Center and FCSIT, focusing on spatial data collection, mapping techniques, and geospatial analysis to enhance local planning and disaster resilience efforts.
On the final day, participants shared their positive impressions of the training, highlighting its impact and relevance. This was followed by the turnover of a specialized GIS book tailored specifically for the Municipality of Pintuyan. The event concluded with the awarding of certificates, heartfelt closing remarks, and a group photo, marking the successful completion of the training.
