Southern Leyte State University Conducts Second PNPKI Training with DICT
On November 26, 2024, Southern Leyte State University – San Juan Campus hosted a successful training and registration for the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI). Organized by the Office of the University Information Systems and Analytics (UISA) in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region VIII, represented by Mr. Daniel C. Ecarma, Mr. Chaddie Y. Estudillo, and Ms. Diana E. Delima, the event, which marked the second batch of training, aimed to raise cybersecurity awareness and equip faculty and staff with the tools needed for secure digital transactions.
Held at the campus’ Student Center, the event focused on PNPKI - a DICT-managed framework that issues digital certificates to ensure secure and trustworthy online interactions. This initiative supports the government's push for digital transformation and safer digital exchanges.
The program featured key sessions, including Cybersecurity Awareness, which highlighted threats like phishing and data breaches while emphasizing the importance of proactive measures; an Overview of PNPKI, explaining its components and its critical role in securing digital communications; and Hands-On Training, providing practical guidance on registering for and using digital certificates, managing private keys, and integrating digital signatures.
DICT facilitators provided step-by-step assistance, ensuring participants left with both knowledge and practical skills.
This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to digital transformation and cybersecurity while demonstrating the power of collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies in fostering a cyber-resilient Philippines.
