Southern Leyte State U team of researchers to collab with Sogod LGU, PNP for project implementation
The Southern Leyte State University research team, led by Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Ms. Jannie Fleur V. Oraño, and Dr. Gerald L. Ceniza, recently met with Sogod LGU Mayor Sheffered Lino S. Tan and PMAJ Alfred Reynald M. Dauz, the acting Chief of Police of Sogod, Southern Leyte last July 26, 2024.
The meeting focused on the implementation of the newly funded project "Application of Geospatial and AI Technologies for Municipal Crime and Accident Management System," which has received a one million peso (₱1,000,000.00) grant from the DOST-PCIEERD. This project, part of the GODDESS Program, aims to enhance crime and accident management in Sogod through advanced technology and collaborative efforts. The collaboration between SLSU, the Sogod LGU, and the PNP is expected to significantly improve public safety and governance in the municipality.
The project aims to establish a centralized geospatial database management system aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) promoting peaceful societies, justice, and strong institutions, which the project supports by enhancing the ability of local authorities to respond effectively to crime and accident reports, thereby improving public safety and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) highlighting the importance of partnerships by fostering collaboration between SLSU, DOST-PCIEERD, and local government unit, utilizing advanced technologies that require multi-stakeholder cooperation.
