SLSU MCC Empowers Future Social Workers through Seminar on Child Protection in Emergencies
On October 28, 2024, a seminar titled "The Role of Social Worker on Child Protection in Emergency Situations" was held for third-year Bachelor of Science in Social Work students. This initiative successfully equipped future social workers with essential knowledge and skills to safeguard vulnerable children during crises such as natural disasters and health emergencies.
The seminar focused on child protection laws, particularly Republic Act No. 10821, addressing the critical risks children face during such events and emphasizing the vital role of social workers in ensuring their well-being.
Anchored in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), the seminar raised awareness of children's vulnerabilities in emergencies and fostered a sense of responsibility among participants.
Micah R. Salem, RSW, served as the resource speaker, providing valuable insights and guidance. This event marked a significant step in preparing social work students to advocate for children's rights and contribute to a safer society, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the challenges of protecting children in emergency contexts.
