SLSU-Tomas Oppus Campus Receives CHED's Excellence in Teacher Education Award Out of 1553 TEIs

Southern Leyte State University - Tomas Oppus Campus (SLSU-TO) receives the prestigious "Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education (EQUATE) Award" from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) during a special ceremony held today, April 2, 2025, at the Manila Hotel, 1 Rizal Park. Dr. Jude A. Duarte, President of Southern Leyte State University, Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, Campus Director of Tomas Oppus Campus, and Dr. Norla Grace A. Betarmos, Faculty Dean of Teacher Education, are present to accept the award on behalf of the institution. They are joined by representatives from other award-winning institutions from across the country.
The EQUATE Award, one of the most distinguished accolades in the field of teacher education, celebrates institutions that demonstrate excellence in ensuring the quality of their educational offerings, compliance with CHED’s minimum standards, and excellent performance in the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT). This recognition signifies the university's commitment to maintaining high standards in its pre-service teacher education programs.
Out of 1553 Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) across the Philippines, only 120 receive this prestigious award, with only a select few from the Region 8 area. Among the other awardees in the region are universities such as Leyte Normal University (LNU), the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), Visayas State University (VSU), and Eastern Samar State University – Main Campus (ESSU-Main).
This award shows SLSU-TO’s dedication to fostering competent educators who are well-equipped to make a significant impact on future generations of learners. As such, this is a milestone in the university’s history, and a promise that the institution will continue to nurture the next generation of outstanding educators. Further, this achievement aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which emphasizes the need for quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
