SLSU - MCC conducts Writeshop on Policy Analysis and Epidemiology
On October 21, 2024, a writeshop on Policy Analysis and Epidemiology for Journal Publication brought together research students, faculty members, and esteemed resource speakers from the DOST NRCP at the SLSU-MCC PE Hall.
Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, opened the session with words of support, encouraging students to publish essays in scopus-indexed journals.
The highlight of the event was Dr. Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III, recognized as one of the 2024 World's Top 2% Scientists, who, along with his assistant Mr. Jerico B. Ogaya, led an engaging discussion. Dr. Prisno challenged attendees to rethink their research approach, transforming it from a rigid concept into an intriguing exploration of ideas.
His thought-provoking questions, particularly on policy analysis, prompted students to consider the complexities of research outcomes. This approach encouraged students to dissect topics thoroughly and analyze their interconnections. In addition, Dr. Prisno provided insights into epidemiology, emphasizing its focus on health-related issues, including disease distribution and control.
The workshop offered students a unique opportunity to publish manuscripts in scopus-indexed journals, which would enhance their academic profiles. Participants learned that publishing a single manuscript would reward them with a free passport, while five publications would grant access to a conference in Southeast Asia. All students are encouraged to submit their work by October 31, 2024 with faculty-support available. Moreover, attendees were advised to create Orcid accounts to obtain their Orcid IDs, essential for Scopus publication.
This initiative aims to elevate the university’s global standing, showcasing the talents and research capabilities of its students. With continued efforts, Southern Leyte State University is poised for recognition on the international stage.
