RIES coordinators review performance, tackle research proposals and new system in workshop
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) successfully conducted the “RIES Coordinators’ Updating and Performance Review with Workshop on Research Proposal Development and Orientation on the New RIES System” on April 15, 2026, at the RIES Conference Room, RIES Building. The whole-day activity brought together research coordinators, faculty members, and key personnel to strengthen institutional research practices and streamline proposal management processes.
The event aimed to update participants on current standards in research proposal writing, address common compliance issues, and introduce improvements in the Research Information and Evaluation System (RIES). It also served as a venue for performance review, ensuring that research coordinators remain aligned with the university’s research goals and quality standards.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the session on Proposal Writing Updates: Standards, Templates, and Common Compliance Errors, facilitated by Ms. Adelfa C. Diola, Science Research Specialist II. She discussed updated submission requirements, proper formatting of attachments, and frequently encountered errors that often result in proposal revisions or delays. Her presentation emphasized accuracy, clarity, and adherence to institutional guidelines to improve approval rates.
Participants were also oriented on the enhanced RIES platform through two comprehensive sessions led by Mr. Mark Rossel Gibe, RIES Programmer. The RIES Proposal System Overview: End-to-End Workflow provided a walkthrough of the entire process—from encoding project details and uploading attachments to version control and submission routing. This session helped participants better understand how to efficiently navigate the system.
In the Hands-on System Orientation and Troubleshooting session, attendees engaged in guided practice using the platform. Common issues such as file upload errors, naming conventions, and submission deadlines were addressed, along with protocols for technical support and escalation. This interactive component ensured that participants gained practical experience and confidence in using the system.

A significant part of the program was the sharing of key reminders by the Extension Director, Engr. Jonelle Tablada, who emphasized the essential roles and responsibilities of RIES Coordinators. He highlighted that coordinators serve as the frontline facilitators of research development within their respective units. Among the key takeaways were the importance of ensuring the completeness and quality of submitted proposals, guiding faculty researchers in complying with institutional and ethical standards, and maintaining accurate documentation and timely submission through the RIES platform. He also stressed proactive communication, regular monitoring of proposal progress, and providing technical assistance to researchers as critical functions of effective coordination.
Moreover, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Publication, and Extension, delivered an inspiring message that motivated participants to strengthen their commitment to research excellence. She underscored the vital role of research coordinators in shaping the university’s research culture and driving innovation that responds to community needs. Dr. Sy encouraged participants to embrace continuous learning, adapt to evolving systems such as the new RIES platform, and uphold integrity and quality in all research undertakings. She also reminded them that their collective efforts contribute significantly to the university’s vision of becoming a leading institution in research and extension.

The activity concluded with a collaborative discussion where participants shared insights and recommendations for improving research processes within the university. The workshop reinforced SLSU’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture, enhancing digital systems, and supporting faculty in producing high-quality research proposals.
Through initiatives like this, Southern Leyte State University continues to empower its research community and uphold excellence in innovation, knowledge creation, and academic development.
