SLSU secures triple victories at AbanTeknolohiya 3.0, 1st in Student Category Pitching, Best Student Poster, and Top 5 in Faculty Category Pitching
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) made the university proud after receiving three recognitions at AbanTeknolohiya 3.0. SLSU won the Best Technology Pitch Award, Best Poster Award, and a Top 5 finish in the Faculty Category during the regional technology pitching event hosted by Visayas State University (VSU). AbanTeknolohiya 3.0, officially called the 2nd Regional Industry-Academe Fireside Chat and Technology Pitching, was held on April 15–16, 2026 at the VSU RDE Hall as part of VSU’s 102nd Founding Anniversary celebration.
AbanTeknolohiya 3.0 was more than just a competition. It was a regional event that brought together schools, innovators, industry partners, and government agencies in Eastern Visayas. Its goal was to give researchers and inventors a chance to present their technologies, connect with possible partners, and explore ways to turn their ideas into useful solutions for communities. The event also helped promote teamwork between schools and industries.

The competition tested not only the quality of the technology, but also the ability of the participants to explain and defend their work. Each team had to present their innovation through a technology pitch and answer questions from local and international evaluators. Because of this, participants needed to show confidence, clear communication, and a strong understanding of their project.
In the Student Category, SLSU won both the Best Technology Pitch Award and Best Poster Award through the project ReefChronoAI. The project was presented by Denissa Doron, whose strong delivery helped the team succeed. Her teammates were Jefferson Itaok, Gerald Catina, Rinvee Betonio, and Jonas Arcken Salac, who all helped develop the system. The team was guided by Ms. Jannie Fleur V. Oraño and Dr. Czarina Ancella G. Gabi, who served as their coaches.

In the Faculty Category, SLSU was represented by Mr. Rexal Toledo, the official presenter, together with Mr. Ryan Tomol. They presented the COTS Tracker App and earned Fifth Place in the Technology Pitch Competition.
The SLSU team was also joined by Mr. Jay Mahusay, Dr. Melvin Sarsale, and Dr. Jilly Ramirez, whose support helped strengthen the university’s participation in the event.
SLSU’s achievement at AbanTeknolohiya 3.0 shows the university’s strong commitment to innovation and research. It also proves that SLSU students and faculty members can not only create useful technologies, but also present and explain them well. Through these achievements, SLSU continues to show that it is a strong institution in research, innovation, and technology-based solutions.
