#SLSyoUWinStreak | Drawn to Triumph
Some stories are written in ink. Hers is drawn in charcoal.
For Samantha Angel Samaco, a social work student at Southern Leyte State University – Maasin City Campus, art has always been more than a hobby. In fact, for her, it has been a quiet companion, a language of shadows and light, and a space where patience transforms into expression. While many see charcoal as simple black strokes on paper, Samantha sees possibilities. With every careful shade and every deliberate line, she tells stories that words alone cannot hold.
That quiet passion recently echoed across a regional stage when she brought honor to the whole Southern Leyte State University by earning 2nd Place in Visual Arts – Charcoal Rendering at the Regional Culture and Arts Festival, hosted by Palompon Institute of Technology. Surrounded by some of the region’s most talented young artists, Samantha stood steady. Her work spoke with quiet power, drawing attention through its depth, detail, and emotion.
Her journey to that moment was not without challenge. As a social work student, she balances demanding academic responsibilities while nurturing her creative soul. Still, she chose to keep drawing, keep refining, and keep believing. Guided by her mentor Aris Rex Espinas, she strengthened not only her technique but also her confidence, stepping onto the regional platform ready to let her art speak for her.
Those who witness her dedication are not surprised by her success. Faculty member Dr. Jahara Napalla shared that Samantha has consistently shown commitment to her craft while managing academic demands, a rare balance that reflects discipline beyond her years.
Today, Samantha’s achievement is a clear message. A message to every aspiring artist that passion, when pursued with patience and purpose, can lead to extraordinary places. Through her work, she inspires a community, uplifts fellow students, and proves that creativity flourishes where determination lives.
And so her story continues—not just as a student, not just as an artist, but as a reminder that greatness often begins with a single stroke of courage.
With talent like hers, SLSU proves that the Win Streak lives on.
