SLSU-TO Bids Farewell to Indonesian Student Interns in Closing Program
Southern Leyte State University–Tomas Oppus Campus formally concludes its month-long academic and cultural exchange with the SEA Teacher Pre-Service and Student Intern Batch 11 from Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum Lamongan, Indonesia—namely Avarel Ghilman Prabowo, Asy Syahrul Haj Marghubi, Chintya Gemawati Jania, and Rafaisma Ironika Ananta—through a meaningful closing program held at the Mini Theater on April 30, 2026. During their one-month stay in the Philippines, the Indonesian student interns actively engage in both academic and cultural experiences that enrich their professional and personal growth.

In his opening remarks, Campus Director Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla highlights the significance of international partnerships in fostering global competence among future educators. He commends the interns for their dedication and adaptability throughout their stay. Throughout their one-month immersion, the Indonesian student interns participate in classroom observations, teaching demonstrations, and collaborative activities across various academic programs. They are warmly welcomed by the Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, and English Education programs, where they actively engage in instructional activities, student interactions, and academic engagements that broaden their teaching perspectives. Beyond the classroom, the interns also have the opportunity to explore the rich culture and natural beauty of the region. They visit several tourist destinations in Southern Leyte, Leyte, and Ormoc, allowing them to experience local traditions, scenic landscapes, and Filipino hospitality firsthand. These experiences complement their academic journey and deepen their appreciation of Philippine culture.
One of the highlights of the program is the vibrant cultural exchange performances. The Indonesian student interns showcase their rich heritage through a traditional dance and a Silat martial arts presentation. They also perform the Alitaptap folk dance and render popular Filipino songs, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.

Inspirational messages are delivered by campus officials, including Dr. Norlyn L. Borong, Faculty Dean, and Dr. Violeta B. Felisilda, Program Head of the English Department, who both emphasize the importance of cross-cultural learning and collaboration in education. The program also features multimedia presentations that document the interns' journey—from classroom observations and teaching demonstrations to community engagement and travel experiences—capturing moments that reflect both academic growth and cultural appreciation.
The Indonesian student interns deliver heartfelt messages of gratitude, expressing appreciation for the warm hospitality and meaningful experiences they gain during their stay in the Philippines. In her closing message, Dr. Leslie Elisa S. Cobilla, Teaching Internship Supervisor, encourages the interns to carry forward the lessons they learn and to continue building bridges across cultures through education.

The closing program serves not only as a farewell but also as a celebration of shared learning, cultural exchange, and international camaraderie, marking yet another successful chapter in SLSU–Tomas Oppus Campus's commitment to global education. This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive and equitable learning through international collaboration.
