SLSU-Bontoc Fisheries Students Bring Pride with Wins in the 2026 DA-Young Farmers Challenge
Southern Leyte State University Bontoc Campus proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of its Fisheries students who emerge as Provincial Level Awardees in the 2026 Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Program, demonstrating the strong foundation in agripreneurship that the campus continually builds among its students.

As part of this recognition, the awardees participate in the Finalization of the Business Model Canvas, conducted by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VIII through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) on July 16–17, 2026, in Tacloban City. The two-day activity brings together young agripreneurs from across the region, providing them with the opportunity to strengthen and refine their business concepts, sharpen their market strategies, and receive expert guidance in preparing their enterprises for sustainable and successful development.

Through this engagement, the students translate their technical knowledge in fisheries into viable, forward-looking business plans, further bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world entrepreneurship.

The campus recognizes its outstanding student awardees: Carlo S. Montehermoso, Ruche A. Catambacan, and Avegel M. Garcia.

This achievement also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, through the promotion of sustainable fisheries-based enterprises; SDG 4: Quality Education, by advancing entrepreneurship and skills-based learning among students; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, through the cultivation of young agripreneurs and future business leaders; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by strengthening innovative and technical approaches to agribusiness; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through the continued collaboration between SLSU-Bontoc and the Department of Agriculture.

Their success reflects the dedication, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of the SLSU-Bontoc community, inspiring more young innovators to pursue excellence in agriculture and agribusiness as the SLSU-Bontoc family takes pride in these achievements and anticipates their continued success.
