From June 19–22, 2024, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) - Bontoc Campus, in partnership with ACCORD Inc., implemented the Resilient IsLA Project on Limasawa Island. The series of activities aimed at enhancing agri-fisheries livelihoods and coastal resilience included the Validation of Capacity Needs Assessment Results, Stakeholder Consultation, Coastal Resource Mapping Workshop, and a Rapid Assessment of Limasawa’s Coastal Resources.

The events featured participation from community members and local leaders, with expert contributions from SLSU faculty and student assistants. Key team members included Ms. Janine Dimzon (Activity Supervisor), Mr. Ryan Tomol (Field Leader), Mr. Jimmy Salamida, Ms. Alieza Del Socorro, Ms. Angelica Gerong, and OJT students Gev Cano and Chynae Sanchez.

This initiative underscores the commitment to climate action, marine protection, and sustainable livelihoods in vulnerable coastal areas.

On June 14, 2024, in celebration of Bontoc’s 74th Founding Anniversary, the community, led by Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Bontoc Campus, conducted a Mangrove Planting Initiative aimed at restoring coastal ecosystems. SLSU-Bontoc faculty provided expert guidance on appropriate mangrove species and planting techniques, ensuring environmental sustainability. The event brought together LGU-Bontoc officials, SK Federation, and partner agencies in a collaborative effort to protect the coastlines. This initiative reflects the municipality’s ongoing dedication to environmental conservation, community action, and climate resilience.

From May 28 to May 31, 2024, the Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office No. 8 conducted a Training of Trainers on Multi-Species Freshwater Aquaculture at the BFAR-Regional Freshwater Aquaculture Production Center in Brgy. Dist. III, Babatngon, Leyte. The program focused on enhancing hatchery and grow-out management skills among fisheries practitioners. Participants included LGU technicians, private stakeholders, and two representatives from Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) - Bontoc: Mr. Daniel Pantoja and Ms. Angelica E. Gerong.

The training featured lectures and hands-on sessions, aiming to boost regional aquaculture capabilities and sustainable fisheries practices.

As of May 22, 2024, the HAPAG Project in Brgy. San Ramon, Bontoc, Southern Leyte has shown significant progress, thanks to the continued support from Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) - Bontoc Campus through the Department of Agricultural Sciences (DAgS). The project aims to promote sustainable agriculture and community food security by encouraging locals to plant fruits and vegetables in their backyards.

This initiative aligns with the university's commitment to community development, nutrition, and environmental stewardship.

On May 9, 2024, BS Fisheries students and Instructor Miss Angelica E. Gerong spearheaded a community extension activity at Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Bontoc Campus. Themed "Empowering Women through Practical Skills: Harnessing San Ramon's Sardine 'Lupoy' for Bottled Sardines and Fish Nuggets Production," the activity provided members of the Women's Association of Brgy. San Ramon with hands-on training in sardine processing. Participants learned fish cleaning, filleting, bottling, packaging, and essential food safety protocols.

This initiative aimed to foster entrepreneurship, women empowerment, and local livelihood development.
