Soon To Rise: SLSU Hinunangan’s student development center, academic building; holds groundbreaking ceremony
HINUNANGAN—Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) President Prose Ivy G. Yepes on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, led the groundbreaking ceremony for the completion of the Students Development Center, and renovation and remodeling of the Office of the Students’ Affairs Services (OSAS) into a two-story complex. These are infrastructure projects of and for SLSU Hinunangan Campus for the fiscal year 2021.
The Students Development Center (SDC) is a multi-facility for student development, bigger event hosting, and a safe evacuation site when the need arises. Its indoor space is sufficient to house an Olympic-sized basketball court with glass boards and bleachers on both sides.
When the construction is done, SDC aims to provide a conducive venue for indoor sports and cultural activities which will include offices to house student-related services like medical, dental, sports, cultural affairs, and career-development, among others. This will also enable SLSU-Hinunangan to host university-wide events, agricultural fairs and trade exhibits, conferences, and public fora.
Likewise, the soon-to-rise two-story academic building will be utilized for the transaction and student support services. This complements the research and innovation function of SLSU-Hinunangan in its pursuit of extending the best quality service to the community.
The provision of this facility serves as a conducive learning environment and sufficient space for library and canteen services. This upgrades the research and innovation capability of SLSU Hinunangan and serves smallholder farmers by providing them with new technology and innovation.
During the ceremony, Yepes emphasized in her message how important stewardship and teamwork are in taking care of the “two big ticket” projects. “We must work together and have a shared vision and stewardship with the top management to take good care of these new infrastructure projects,” she added.
With the building constructions and rehabilitation, machinery and equipment, and furniture and fixtures, both projects will be financed with a total approved budget of Php 88.5 million from the national government.
