SLSU SJ Gears Up for 2026 Research and Extension Initiatives through Two-Day Workshop
Southern Leyte State University–San Juan Campus, through the Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES), conducted a two-day training workshop on research and extension proposal completion and refinement of completed papers for journal publication on December 16–17, 2025, at D and Y Apartelle Resort, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, as part of its preparations for the research and extension activities for the year ahead.
The activity was organized in support of the RIES Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) and was led by Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, Head of RIES; Dr. Catherine M. Garcia, Coordinator for Research and Innovation; and Mr. Rogen A. Cagorol, Coordinator of Extension Services and External Affairs. The workshop aimed to equip faculty-researchers with the necessary competencies to finalize research and extension proposals and enhance completed studies in line with institutional priorities and scholarly publication standards for the upcoming year.
Over the two-day period, participants engaged in expert-led discussions and hands-on sessions focused on structuring research and extension proposals, manuscript refinement, and appropriate journal selection. Collaborative peer-review activities were also conducted to provide constructive feedback, improve methodological rigor, and ensure clarity and coherence of research outputs. Emphasis was likewise placed on ethical research practices and compliance with recognized academic publication standards.
This initiative highlights the Southern Leyte State University's commitment to proactive research planning and faculty capacity-building. By strengthening faculty-researchers' readiness for the year ahead, the university continues to advance a strong research and extension culture and to promote the production of high-quality, publishable academic outputs.
The event aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
