Transforming Public Service: SLSU Bontoc Hosts 2024 Gandilan Awards
In celebration of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary with the theme “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes”, the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Bontoc Campus organized its In-House 2024 Gandilan Awards with the goal of formally recognizing its 21 employees who exemplify the core values of excellence, leadership, competence, accountability, teamwork, and steadfast commitment to the institution, held at the newly renovated SLSU Bontoc Campus Multi-purpose Covered Court (MPC) on October 8, 2024.
Out of this number, 8 received the Pearly White Award, 4 given Cliff Jumper Award, 2 obtained the Mountain Mover Award, 6 given the Face Lifter Award, and 1 received the Loyalty Award for 15 years in service.
The key officials of Southern Leyte State U, including University President Jude A. Duarte, DPA, VP for Administration and Finance Mr. Dewoowoogen Baclayon, Ph.D., VP for Academic Affairs Mr. Constantino G. Medillo Jr. PhD, VP for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services Ms. Francis Ann Sy, Ph.D., and VP for Student and Auxiliary Services (VPSAS) Ms. Annabelle Hufalar, Dev. Ed. D., were present to present the awards.
The following SLSU-Bontoc Faculty and Staff are the service awardees honoured during the 2024 Gandilan Awards:
Pearly White Award
This special award is given to the front-line workers (regular, casual, job order) for always wearing miles of smiles, being very courteous, and with enthusiastic attitude in dealing with clients, stakeholders, visitors and people from all walks of life who come to SLSU Bontoc Campus for whatever purpose.

Cliff Jumper Award

Mountain Mover Award
This special award is granted to Heads of Colleges, Departments, Offices, Units who have exceeded office expectations without compromising the other important functions of the college, department, unit, or office.

Face Lifter Award
This special award is given to a university employee who is known to inspire other workers in the midst of difficulties, uplift their spirit, and encourage them to face any challenge that comes their way. This employee always keeps a positive outlook in life and can influence other university workers to feel good about themselves and their work.

Loyalty Award (15 years in service)
This is granted to all officials and employees who rendered fifteen (15) years of continuous and satisfactory service in the government.

The occasion also marked SLSU-Bontoc’s official welcoming of its newly hired employees, namely, Mr. Erwin P. Remojo (Administrative Officer V) and Ms. Vircilyn Camilla P. Acilo (Faculty, Department of Agricultural Sciences). The event's success was ensured through the efforts of the Human Resource Management Office, led by Ms. Mercy F. Jadraque (HRMO II), in collaboration with the local PRAISE Committee.
