ITSO equips tech students with IP awareness and innovation skills
The Intellectual Property and Technology Support Office (ITSO) successfully conducted an IP Awareness and Research Innovation Seminar for students under the Electrical, HVACR, and Electronics Technology programs, reinforcing the importance of protecting ideas and fostering innovation among future professionals.
The activity opened with a warm and inspiring message from Dr. Lucila Bacalla, who underscored the vital role of research, innovation, and intellectual property (IP) awareness in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. She encouraged students to not only develop creative ideas but also to take responsibility in safeguarding and respecting intellectual creations.

Highlighting the seminar was resource speaker Ms. Cyrene A. Napoles, who delivered comprehensive and insightful discussions on key IP concepts. Her sessions covered the IP system in action, the process of transforming research ideas into protectable innovations, and techniques for conducting novelty searches using IP databases. Through these discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of how their ideas can evolve into valuable, legally protected outputs.

The seminar proper featured Ms. Cyrene A. Napoles as the resource speaker for the sessions. She delivered insightful discussions on key topics related to intellectual property and innovation, including the IP system in action and the protection of ideas, the journey from research idea to protectable innovation, and novelty search and navigating IP databases. The activity provided students with practical knowledge on the significance of intellectual property rights in their academic and future professional endeavors. More importantly, it highlighted the role of innovation in the fields of Electrical, HVACR, and Electronics Technology, where new ideas and technical solutions continue to drive progress.
Through initiatives like this, ITSO continues to empower students to become more aware, creative, and responsible innovators ready to turn their ideas into meaningful contributions to society.
