SLSU and Rizal Inventors and Innovators Society, Inc. Forge Partnership Through MOU Signing Ceremony
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) took another leap toward innovation excellence as it officially sealed a partnership with the Rizal Inventors and Innovators Society, Inc. (RIISI) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held virtually on October 21, 2025.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding signifies more than just a formal agreement, but it marks the beginning of an alliance between the academe and the industry, uniting impactful initiatives in research, technology development, and intellectual property protection. Both institutions share one vision: to transform Filipino ideas into technologies that make a lasting impact on communities and the nation.
During the ceremony, Engr. Jonelle H. Tablada, Director of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTTO), highlighted how the collaboration strengthens SLSU’s drive to nurture inventiveness among faculty, students, and researchers.
Dr. Ingrid M. Uy, Director of the External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA), proudly presented SLSU’s growing innovation landscape, while Dr. Arquilio Y. Melano, President of RIISI, shared the organization’s mission of empowering Filipino inventors and bridging them with meaningful opportunities.
The highlight of the event came as Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, SLSU Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (representing University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte), and Engr. Arquilio Y. Melano, RIISI President, signed the agreement. Their signatures symbolized a shared commitment to cultivate a strong innovation ecosystem and foster creative collaborations that drive national progress.
In her message of commitment, Dr. Sy emphasized SLSU’s mission to empower inventors, saying, “Innovation thrives when the academe and industry work hand in hand. Through this partnership, we are opening more doors for technology-driven solutions that truly serve the people.”
The ceremony concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Mr. Ramel E. Claros, Head of Knowledge Management and Technology Innovation, who expressed optimism for future joint projects that will shape a more innovative and sustainable Philippines.
