SLSU Bontoc NSTP Coordinator Joins National Capability Enhancement Training in Manila
Jilden Anavesa, NSTP Coordinator of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU)–Bontoc Campus, participated in the National Continuing Capability Enhancement Training for NSTP Implementors and Educators, held on November 26–28, 2025, at the Manila Grand Hotel, 8th Floor, Rizal Avenue corner Doroteo Jose Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila.
With the theme “Reinforcing NSTP & NSRC in Gearing Up for National Service,” the national-level training gathered NSTP implementors and educators from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) nationwide.
The activity aimed to strengthen the roles of NSTP and the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) in preparing institutions and educators for effective and responsive national service. It focused on enhancing competencies in policy implementation, program management, and the delivery of NSTP- and NSRC-related initiatives aligned with national development priorities.
The three-day training featured seven plenary sessions facilitated by various government agencies whose mandates are directly related to NSTP and NSRC. These sessions provided in-depth discussions on national policies, inter-agency coordination, and best practices, emphasizing the importance of multi-agency collaboration in strengthening national service initiatives.
Active participation was evident during the plenary sessions, as participants shared institutional experiences, raised concerns, and clarified implementation issues with the resource speakers. These exchanges encouraged deeper learning and the identification of practical strategies applicable to their respective institutions.
On the final day, a workshop was conducted to consolidate the learnings gained from the plenary discussions. The session served as a venue for collaborative discussion, synthesis of key concepts, and formulation of action plans aimed at improving NSTP implementation and strengthening NSRC mobilization at the institutional level.
Anavesa emphasized the role of NSTP in shaping socially responsible students, stating, “NSTP plays a crucial role in shaping socially responsible students. This training emphasized how our programs can be better aligned with community needs while supporting national development goals.”
He further highlighted the importance of action-oriented learning, adding, “The workshop sessions allowed us to translate policy discussions into concrete action plans. I look forward to applying these strategies to strengthen NSRC mobilization and NSTP implementation in our campus.”
Overall, the training served as a meaningful professional development opportunity, equipping NSTP implementors with updated knowledge and reinforcing a shared commitment to strengthening NSTP and NSRC in support of national service.
This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals and SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
