SLSU Conducts Extension Activity in Brgy. Canturing, Maasin City for Leadership in Transparent Governance
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through its Public Administration Department, successfully conducted an extension activity titled “Leadership in Transparent Governance” on November 25, 2025, at Barangay Canturing, Maasin City, Southern Leyte. The activity aimed to strengthen ethical leadership, promote transparency, and enhance accountability among community leaders and stakeholders.
The program began with preliminaries, including the National Anthem and an opening prayer, followed by a welcome message and a statement of purpose, setting the tone for a meaningful learning engagement. Participants were formally introduced, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and shared commitment to good governance.
The training proper featured a series of insightful lectures delivered by distinguished speakers from SLSU. Topics discussed included the Principles of Ethical Leadership and Governance, the Role of Leaders in Promoting Transparency and Accountability, Challenges and Solutions in Transparent Governance, and Citizen Engagement and Participatory Leadership. These sessions emphasized the importance of integrity, openness, and community participation in public service and local governance.
The speakers highlighted practical approaches and real-life applications of ethical leadership, encouraging participants to uphold transparency in decision-making and to actively involve citizens in governance processes. The discussions also underscored the shared responsibility of leaders and constituents in building trustworthy and responsive institutions.
The activity concluded with the giving of certificates and closing remarks, leaving participants with renewed motivation and a deeper understanding of transparent governance practices.
This extension activity was led by Dr. Jonathan J. Palco, EdD, as Activity Leader, with Junelen G. Inting as Training Coordinator, and Mariecar R. Paloma as Facilitator, with the support of assistant facilitators. The success of the event reflects SLSU’s continued commitment to community engagement and capacity-building initiatives aligned with good governance and ethical leadership.
Through programs like this, Southern Leyte State University reaffirms its role as a partner in community development, empowering local leaders and citizens to work together toward transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance.
