SLSU Bontoc Professor joins Environmental Management Training for Consultants
Assistant Professor Peter June Dadios, representing Southern Leyte State University – Bontoc Campus, participated in a 3-day Environmental Management Training hosted at Hotel Alejandro, located on P. Paterno Street in Tacloban City from November 12-14, 2024.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST8) Regional Office VIII, in collaboration with the Summit Consultancy and Research Services, organized the training to empower DOST-accredited consultants and personnel.
The training aimed to equip professionals with practical solutions for addressing environmental challenges across various sectors.
Asst. Prof. Dadios, an expert in animal science and a DOST-accredited consultant in Agricultural Productivity (AP), joined other participants in exploring key topics such as waste management, resource conservation, and environmental regulations.
As an Agricultural Productivity (AP) Consultant, Mr. Dadios possesses expertise in modern agricultural technologies, sustainable practices, farmer support, efficient farming research, and policy implementation.
A key highlight of the training is production waste handling and management for MSMEs, covering solid waste, air pollution control, wastewater management, and hazardous waste cases.
SLSU Bontoc, centered on promoting agriculture and fisheries programs, actively offers expert guidance to farmers, fisherfolk, agricultural enterprises, and other stakeholders. “Learning from various consultants gives us helpful ideas on practices that help MSMEs follow environmental laws, improve efficiency, and promote sustainability.” Dadios stated.
“As SLSU Bontoc continues to provide expertise to various stakeholders, this training is crucial for enhancing our environmental management practices on campus,” Dadios added.
The training session also brings together DOST-accredited consultants from several higher education institutions across the region, including Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), Samar State University (SSU), Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), and Visayas State University (VSU). Joining them are personnel from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) and the DOST Provincial Science & Technology Services, all working collaboratively to enhance regional expertise.
The training provided a platform for participants to engage in discussions on improving technical consultancy services by promoting sustainable practices in their respective fields and industries.
