SLSU Successfully Conducts Basic Computer Literacy Training for Bontoc LGU

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through the Faculty of Computer Studies and Information Technology (FCSIT), has successfully carried out its extension program titled “Empowering Communities Through Technology: Basic Computer Literacy Training for Local Government Unit.” Spearheaded by FCSIT RIES Coordinator Geraldine B. Mangmang, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Bontoc, the initiative aimed to strengthen the digital competencies of local public servants to support inclusive, efficient, and technology-driven governance. The training was conducted in two batches at the FCSIT Audio-Visual Room (FCSIT-AVR), SLSU Main Campus. The first batch was conducted on June 18–19, 2025, followed by the second batch on June 25–26, 2025.
Participants included LGU employees, barangay secretaries, and treasurers from Bontoc, Southern Leyte. They were equipped with fundamental computer skills to improve administrative processes, enhance data management, and strengthen digital communication for more responsive service delivery at the grassroots level.
The program promoted inclusive access to digital learning by incorporating gender-sensitive training approaches to ensure equitable opportunities for all participants, regardless of background or prior technological exposure. It also encouraged the adoption of digital tools in governance, entrepreneurship, and community development, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Aligned with SLSU’s commitment to both national and global development goals, the program directly supported key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Moreover, the training integrated Gender and Development (GAD) principles to promote inclusive participation, leadership, and equitable decision-making in the digital sphere.
This initiative demonstrates SLSU’s ongoing dedication to empowering communities through technology, building transformative partnerships, and preparing local government units for the evolving demands of the digital era.
