SLSU Librarian Joins Transformative Library Leadership Program at National University of Singapore
On January 6th to 10th, 2025, Ms. Geanrose L. Colonia, Director of Learning Commons and Library Services of Southern Leyte State University, attended the Transforming University Libraries Leadership and Innovation Programme (TULLIP) hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The 5-day event granted only 28 delegations from ASEAN nations and beyond. Her participation to this event was supported by a full grant fellowship, where she joined leaders from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and Bhutan, and the Philippines. The Transforming University Libraries Leadership and Innovation Programme (TULLIP) at the National University of Singapore offered an intensive exploration into the future of academic libraries.
The day’s opening program tackled the changing information landscape, how it is affecting academic libraries. Digitization, equal resource access, and implementing agile solutions in the face of digital-era requirements were all on the table.
Engaging on Day 2 participants were introduced to the best practices exhibited by NUS Library as a world leader in excellence in academic libraries. Talks focused on transformational projects, cutting edge tech, and sustainable strategies to expand support for teaching, research, and learning.
The third aforementioned day did highlight partnerships that advance education and research. Delegates reviewed case studies that feature successful partnerships and discover means by which artificial intelligence will transform library service, resource management, and the user experience.
Day Four introduced the idea of libraries as “living labs,” parlaying the continuous conversation of inclusive infrastructure, curated collections and inspired collaborative creative spaces. The conversations underscored the library’s role as one of the world’s great centers of intellectual and cultural exchange.
The programme ended with a Thinkathon in which participants worked on real challenges and come up their practical solutions. It was a day of both presentations and closing dinner with certificates of completion presented to all delegates.
Throughout the week, participants toured key NUS facilities, including the Central Library, Industry Design Project Lab, Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, Medicine+Science Library, and University Town. These visits highlighted how NUS seamlessly integrates libraries with education and innovation.
