SLSU Hosts Organizational Conference on Journal Specialization and Resource Sharing
SLSU was host to the Organizational Conference of Visayas-Mindanao SUCs with Categories A or B Journal on Journal Specialization and Resource Sharing on May 24-25, 2016 at Cordova, Cebu, which was participated by 16 state universities and colleges (SUCs). The Conference focused on having the SUCs produce a specialized journal with citation indexing, and with potential submissions from international authors and authors from external universities. The Conference, which involved round table discussions, was shepherded by consultant Roberto Padua.
The Conference came on the heels of the decision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to stop the application of the Category A or B identification for journals, adopting instead a new pass or failed criteria which will take effect in 2017.
Also part of the new guideline is the application of citation indexing, the publication of an Online Journal System (OJS), and a more rigorous evaluation for journals wherein international submissions will be crucial.
To beat the stringent requirements, the participating SUCs went into an agreement on resource sharing – resource sharing of articles that will be recommended for publication in the appropriate specialized journal, and resource sharing of peer reviewers – to sustain journal production.
VP-RDE Francis Ann Sy was also chosen as the chair to head the newly formed Visayas-Mindanao Consortium for Journal Publication that would operationalize all the agreements reached during the Conference.
SLSU delegates to the Conference were VP-RDE Francis Ann Sy, Editor-in-Chief Homer de Dios, Associate Editor Marvin Daguplo, and RDE staff members Lieza Noelle Malinao and Joy Catarman. SLSU President Prose Ivy Yepes came on the second day of the Conference and gave the closing address.
SLSU produces two journals, the teacher education journal – Journal of Educational and Human Resource Development (JEHRD) and the science journal – Journal of Science, Engineering and Technology (JSET).
