No More Excuses for Not Doing Research

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) is now a haven for students and researchers looking for accessible scientific journal articles on a variety of topics.  The university is now investing a whooping P120,000 yearly to provide its students and faculty members access to a database carrying one hundred scientific journals. From refrigeration to quantum chemistry, computer aided design, and water resources planning - the mind-boggling list of journals seems to leave no topic excluded from the science and technology thrust of SLSU. The library staff headed by librarian Gean Rose Colonia has drawn up a list that fits smack the science and technology vision of the university.

Information on SLSU’s subscription to the database provided for by the InfoTrac Gale Group was first disseminated to the university’s faculty members in an orientation on navigating the database, held on July 19, 2016. Here are the journals in the InfoTrac database:

SLSU-Sogod also houses STARBOOKS – a stand-alone information kiosk which carries hundreds of thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats (text, video and audio). STARBOOKS, which is an acronym for Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks, is a compendium of science and technology information gathered from all over the world by the Department of Science and Technology.  Information is accessible even without internet connection. Students, faculty members and staff interested of accessing StarBooks content may approach the SLSU-Sogod library for the creation of an individual username and password.
