RDE Directors and RDE Coordinators Meet for 2016 Plan
RDE Directors met on Jan. 19, 2016 to discuss various matters, among them: overload payment, SLSU’s engagement with GIS, RDE manual revision, external panelists for the RDE proposal review and evaluation, targets for research by campus, and the target no. of beneficiaries at 20 beneficiaries per faculty member, based on the new target of 4,000 from 11,000 beneficiaries.
RDE Director Veronica Reoma met with the academic RDE Coordinators on Jan. 20 to discuss the monitoring of research proposals by department, and guidelines related to the submission of proposals and compliance by the authors, which will be overseen by the RDE Coordinators of the respective academic departments.

SLSU Researchers Attend Seminar – Workshop on Agent Based Models Part II
Faculty members Adelfa Diola, Marvin Credo, James Brian Flores and Jasmine Dayunan were taken to a seminar-workshop on Agent Based Models by SLSU consultant and former CHED Commissioner Roberto Padua on January 27-29 at Cagayan de Oro City. With them was VP-RDE Francis Ann Sy. The foursome faculty members will soon be expected to turn in publishable research outputs for the university.
GIS Tech Center Coordinators Meeting
Coordinators of the GIS Tech Center were called to a meeting on Jan. 14, 2016 by VP-RDE Francis Ann Sy and SLSU consultant Alejandro Tongco to discuss the duties and responsibilities of the staff of Tech Center. In attendance were Czarina Ancella Gabi who was appointed as Coordinator for GIS Database Development, Programming, Web GIS & Training; Renlyn Benton who is the Coordinator for GIS/GPS and R&D; and Ramon Fernandez Jr. who is appointed as the Coordinator for Remote Sensing and Extension. The GIS Tech Center is headed by CSIT Department Head Alex Bacalla.
The following day on Jan 15, 2016, faculty members with pending researches incorporating GIS were gathered to a meeting to assess the difficulties associated with GIS research and identify solutions to facilitate completion of GIS researches. Also in the meeting was GIS expert and Balik Scientist Alejandro Tongco, who was in consultation with the GIS researchers. SLSU Hour Promotes SLSU Programs
RDE has been actively promoting SLSU’s programs and projects through its radio program SLSU Hour, aired at DYSL 104.7 FM every Wednesday at 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Guests for January were, from SLSU Bontoc: student Jason Tuang-tuang , undergraduate dean Homer Hermes de Dios and instructor Webel Glenn Dublado; from Hinunangan: Curriculum Development Officer and Department Head Cecily Bugais; and from SLSU-Sogod: Criminology OIC Deparment Head Eleazar Labata and Physics instructor Marie Khul Langub. In December, the Industrial Technology’s Jessie Cola and Diosdada Lumandog went on air to promote the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and Foods program of the Industrial Technology Department.

2015 in Review
As we start the year, we present the accomplishments so far of the RDE-Sogod office for the past year. It was a definitely amplified year in local and external research trainings, hosting of research fora and holding of RDE Review and Evaluation for proposals and ongoing or completed researches. SLSU also became the venue of a national summit, the National Abaca Summit.
In summary, the past year’s research trainings were on research journal publication, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), fractal statistical inference, data mining, theory development, simulation and modeling, anomaly detection and regression, path analysis, and experimental designs.
RDE Review and Evaluation activities for proposals and ongoing researches were held nearly monthly on a rotating basis in each of SLSU’s five campuses. Research fora hosted by SLSU were the 1st Multidisciplinary Paper Presentation on Fractals, the Visayas Consortium for Agricultural and Resource Program (ViCARP)-Regional Research and Development (RRDEN) Cluster II RDE Review. SLSU also co-hosted the National Conference on Methodological Advances in Research.
