2014 RDE Research Awards
RDE staff are the recipients of several awards from government research institutions.
In May, SLSU-Sogod Extension Unit Head Veronica Reoma’s study “Perceived Health Problems and Leading Causes of Morbidity and Mortality in Sogod Bay Area”was awarded third place in the Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Council (EVHRDC) Health Research Summit on May 14, 2014 at Leyte Normal University in Tacloban City. EVHRDC is a growing consortium of government agencies, public and private schools and non-government organizations, interested in or pursuing a health advocacy. EVHRDC yearly sponsors a Health Research Summit which recognizes and awards outstanding health research papers from its member agencies.
In June, the study of SLSU-Sogod Research Unit Head Dewoowoogen Baclayon and Visayas State University’s (VSU) Candelario Calibo, “Potentials of Laboratory-Produced Chitosan as Postharvest Treatment in Mango Fruit” was chosen as one of the Best Paper in the Research Project Category in the 25th Joint ViCARP and RRDEN Regional Research Development and Extension Symposium held at Visayas State University (VSU) on June 19-20, 2014. SLSU-Sogod Research, Development and Extension (RDE) staff also submitted poster entries to the symposium.
In November, Reoma’s completed extension project “University School-On-Air (USOA) as a Vehicle for Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development” was awarded 1st prize in the Best Completed Extension category, in the Cluster 2 RDE Review of the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture Resources Program and the Regional Research Development and Extension Network for Agriculture and Fishery (ViCARP-RRDEN) on November 11-12, 2014 at Tacloban City.
Reoma’s other study “Adaptability Trials of Sweet Potato Cultivars under Southern Leyte Condition” was awarded 2nd prize in the Best Completed Research Study category. Within the same category, Nerissa Pesquerra and Shirleeen Grace Brillantes SLSU-Bontoc won the 3rd prize for their study “Rapid Coastal Biodiversity Assessment in St. Bernard and Silago, Southern Leyte.
