District-Based Training on Using Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics Problem Solving Under the Harnessing Optimized Pedagogy and Educational AI (HOPE) for Mathematics Excellence Program
On May 28, 2026, the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) officially launches the Harnessing Optimized Pedagogy and Educational AI (HOPE) for Mathematics Excellence Program at the SLSU Library, marking a significant partnership between SLSU and the Department of Education – Southern Leyte Division, Bontoc I District.

The launch signifies a shared commitment to strengthening mathematics education through innovation, collaboration, and the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning. Through this partnership, SLSU and DepEd Bontoc I District aim to empower teachers with AI-enhanced pedagogical approaches that can improve learners’ mathematics proficiency, problem-posing abilities, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills—competencies that are essential in navigating the demands of the 21st century.
The program is spearheaded by Dr. Juanita M. Costillas, Program Leader, together with program members Ms. Karen L. Molina and Mr. Bethany I. Munez, in collaboration with Mr. Raul T. Duarte, Public Schools District Supervisor of Bontoc I District, and the School Principals of the participating schools. And the planning of the HOPE for Mathematics Excellence program is also done in coordination with Bontoc District 1 Mathematics Coordinator, Mr. Andres Solberes.

More than a training initiative, the HOPE for Mathematics Excellence Program represents a strong and meaningful partnership dedicated to advancing educational quality and learner achievement. By harnessing the potential of Artificial Intelligence as a tool for teaching and learning, SLSU and DepEd continue to work hand in hand toward creating innovative, engaging, and effective mathematics learning experiences for every learner.
