SLSU Empowers Youth and Barangay Tanods Through Martial Arts Summer Camp

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through its Faculty of Criminal Justice, successfully implemented the “Lakas at Liksi” Summer Training Program from June 9 to 26, 2025. The initiative offered Taekwondo training for youth and Arnis training for Barangay Tanods to promote physical fitness, discipline, and community safety.
Conducted at the SLSU Main Campus, the program equipped participants with essential self-defense skills, enhanced their confidence, and strengthened the connection between young individuals and local peacekeepers. By featuring Arnis, the Philippines’ national martial art, the training also fostered cultural appreciation and national pride.
In partnership with BLGU Sogod, the program ensured gender-inclusive participation and supported key development goals—SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The camp concluded with a skill demonstration and a community outreach activity that provided essential goods to the beneficiaries.
“Lakas at Liksi” reflects SLSU’s continued commitment to youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and the promotion of Filipino heritage through community-based initiatives.
