SLSU–Maasin City Campus Conducts Two-Day Workshop for Crafting of Research Center

The Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Maasin City Campus, through the Research, Innovation, Publication, and Extension (RIPE) Office, successfully conducted a two-day workshop titled “Workshop for the Crafting of SLSU–Maasin City Campus Research Center” on April 13–14, 2026, at the SLSU–Maasin City Campus.

The activity aimed to collaboratively develop and strengthen the framework for the establishment of the SLSU–Maasin City Campus Research Center. Faculty members, staff, and key stakeholders actively participated in the workshop to align research priorities, define operational structures, and formulate strategic directions that support the university’s research agenda.

The program formally opened with a welcome message from Dr. Michael Malachy D. Dagami, who emphasized the importance of building a dedicated research center to enhance innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence within the campus. He highlighted that the initiative would serve as a platform for faculty researchers and students to engage in meaningful research activities that address community needs and contribute to institutional growth.

The workshop featured Dr. Ian A. Navarrete, Campus Director of SLSU–Hinunangan Campus, as the resource person for the two-day activity. During the first day, Dr. Navarrete provided valuable insights on research center development, including organizational structure, research priority setting, and sustainability planning. He also facilitated collaborative sessions where participants identified key research focus areas and drafted initial plans for the center.

On the second day, the workshop continued with interactive group discussions and presentations of proposed research center frameworks. Participants actively contributed ideas and recommendations to further refine the drafted plans. The sessions encouraged collaboration and knowledge sharing among faculty and staff, fostering a unified vision for the establishment of the research center.

The activity concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Frederick C. Aniga, Campus Director of SLSU-Maasin City Campus, who commended the participants for their active involvement and commitment to strengthening the research culture of the campus. He expressed optimism that the outputs generated during the workshop would serve as a solid foundation for the successful establishment of the SLSU–Maasin City Campus Research Center.
