PRC–PRBOA Inspection Affirms Compliance of SLSU San Juan Campus Accountancy Program

On March 9, 2026, the Professional Regulatory Board of Accountancy (PRBOA) under the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) conducted an Inspection and Monitoring Visit at Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – San Juan Campus to assess its Accountancy Program.

Dr. Gervacio I. Piator, Member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Accountancy, led the inspection, joined by PRC Region VIII representatives Mr. Jerico Espada, Officer I, and Mr. Alejo R. Ogania, Information Technology Officer I.

Campus Director Mr. Danilo S. Escobido, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Dr. Gwendolyn C. Tatoy, Head of the Accountancy Department Mylyn C. Agapay, Director of Research, Innovation and Extension Services, and faculty member Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, and other esteemed faculty members and personnel responsible for implementing the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) program attended the activity.

The PRBOA continues to ensure that higher education institutions offering the BSA program comply with the policies, standards, and regulatory requirements governing quality accountancy education in the country.

During the inspection, the team reviewed the university’s compliance in key areas, including faculty qualifications, curriculum implementation, instructional resources, student support, and other requirements reflected in the BOA School Inspection Report. The activity also provided the university with an opportunity to present its initiatives and ongoing efforts to strengthen the Accountancy Program and sustain academic quality.

The main achievement of the visit was that the inspection team found no major recommendations or proposed corrective or preventive actions. This shows that the Accountancy Department fully complied with the requirements in the BOA School Inspection Report, affirming its commitment to quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Following the Inspection and Monitoring Visit, Dr. Gervacio I. Piator, the CPALE examiner, met with Accountancy students from first year to fourth year for a short meet-and-greet session. The activity included an open question-and-answer forum, allowing students to engage directly with the Board representative and ask questions about the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE).

During the session, Dr. Piator delivered valuable insights on the licensure examination, clarified its expectations, and emphasized the importance of early and consistent preparation. The forum enriched and inspired the students by providing firsthand guidance from a member of the Board of Accountancy.

This favorable outcome in the Inspection and Monitoring Visit, along with the student interaction session, shows that SLSU San Juan Campus upholds high standards in accountancy education and produces competent, ethical, and future-ready accounting professionals.
