SLSU-PhilABUS Alumni attend the welcome reception for the Belgian Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Vladislava Iordanova

Alumni of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) who are members of the PhilABUS Network (Philippine Association of Belgian University Scholars) attended the Welcome Reception in honor of the Belgian Ambassador to the Philippines, Her Excellency Vladislava Iordanova, held at Visayas State University on July 20, 2026.
 
Representing SLSU were Dr. Pet Anthony L. Pascual, Dr. Gladys L. Pascual, and Ms. Alieza O. Del Socorro, whose participation highlighted the University's active involvement in international academic cooperation and its strong presence within the community of Filipino scholars who have benefited from Belgian and European Union-supported education programs.
 

Also in attendance was Nakawungu Winfred Tracy, an international intern from Ghent University, currently undertaking her internship at Southern Leyte State University-Bontoc Campus. The reception likewise provided an opportunity to welcome the Ghent University delegation, composed of a professor, doctoral researchers, and master's students who are currently conducting their respective research studies in Leyte and Southern Leyte. Their presence underscored the growing academic and research collaboration between Ghent University and partner institutions in the region, spanning disciplines that range from aquaculture and natural resource management to the social sciences.

The gathering served as a valuable platform for strengthening academic partnerships, fostering international collaboration, and promoting meaningful exchanges among scholars, researchers, and institutional partners. It also reaffirmed the shared commitment of the European Union, Belgium, and Philippine higher education institutions to advancing research, innovation, and global engagement.

Beyond the formalities of the occasion, the reception was a reminder that international partnerships are sustained not only through agreements and programs, but through the continued involvement of alumni, students, and researchers who carry these collaborations forward in their respective fields.
