SLSU Bontoc's RN Ceniza Joins PNA’s 2025 National Convention
Nurses from across the country gathered for the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) National Annual Convention held on October 21–23, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City. This year’s convention carried the theme “Innovate, Advocate, Transform: The Nurses' Blueprint for a Changing World.”
Among the delegates was Ms. Cherry Ann Ceniza, Registered Nurse (RN), who represented Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Bontoc in the three-day national assembly. Ceniza said the convention provided “a timely reminder that nursing is evolving, and we must evolve with it.”
The opening sessions focused on innovation, highlighting technological advancements, evidence-based practice, and the role of nurses in addressing social determinants of health. According to Ceniza, these discussions underscored the importance of continuous learning.
“Innovation isn’t just about new tools. It’s about shifting perspectives and improving how we care for patients,” she said.
On the second day, the program shifted its attention to advocacy, tackling issues surrounding workplace conditions, staffing, and equitable healthcare access. Speakers emphasized the need for stronger representation in policy-making.
Ceniza noted that advocacy remains central to effective nursing practice. “I’ve thought the patients I’ve cared for, the long hours, the moments when my voice seemed small against big systems. The convention gave me a space to realize that I’m not alone. There are many nurses who believe in fairness, in safe workplaces, in equitable care,” she shared.
The final day highlighted the theme of transformation, with a plenary session on “Nurses as Healthpreneurs” encouraging participants to explore leadership and entrepreneurial paths within healthcare.
The session drew strong engagement from attendees seeking new career directions.
Ceniza described the closing sessions as both inspiring and practical. “It challenged us to think of nursing not just as a job, but as a space where we can lead, innovate, and create impact,” she said.
The convention ended with a call to apply the insights gained to strengthen nursing practice and patient care nationwide. PNA officials said this year’s blueprint aims to equip Filipino nurses with the skills needed to meet evolving healthcare demands.
This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly No Poverty (SDG 1) and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8).
