SLSU strengthens research excellence through Bibliometric Analysis Training-Workshop Phase 2

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through its Office of Research, Innovation and Publication, and Extension (RIPE), successfully conducted the Bibliometric Analysis Training-Workshop Phase 2 on July 15–16, 2026, at the RIES Training Hall, reinforcing the University's commitment to advancing research excellence, scholarly productivity, and global research visibility.

Building on the foundations established during Phase 1, the two-day workshop equipped faculty members, researchers, and staff with advanced skills in bibliometric analysis, data interpretation, and research manuscript development. Participants engaged in intensive hands-on sessions focused on refining research topics, keywords, search strategies, and datasets while exploring publication trends, citation networks, keyword co-occurrence, collaboration patterns, and thematic mapping.

Through guided mentoring, participants transformed preliminary bibliometric outputs into comprehensive research studies, enabling them to identify research gaps, generate evidence-based insights, and develop manuscripts ready for conference presentation, journal publication, and future externally funded research initiatives.

The workshop featured Dr. Melvin Sarsale as resource speaker, who provided expert guidance on advanced bibliometric techniques and the translation of complex research data into publishable scholarly outputs. His practical mentoring strengthened participants’ capacity to conduct rigorous, data-driven research aligned with international standards.

In her message, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Publication and Extension Services, challenged participants to move beyond training and transform their outputs into peer-reviewed publications that contribute to knowledge creation, institutional research productivity, and global academic engagement. She also outlined SLSU’s strategic directions in research and innovation, highlighting digitalization, international research visibility, participation in globally recognized conferences, and the commercialization of research outputs.

The successful implementation of Phase 2 reflects SLSU’s continuing investment in developing a research-driven academic community capable of producing impactful, evidence-based, and globally relevant scholarship. Through sustained capacity-building initiatives, the University strengthens its position as an emerging center of research and innovation, contributing meaningful solutions to local and global challenges.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the activity underscores SLSU’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and collaboration in pursuit of sustainable development and academic excellence.
