Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) actively participated in a data-gathering activity for the doctoral dissertation entitled “Mapping of Gender Development Outcomes in State Universities and Colleges in the Visayas Region” on June 24, 2026, at the SLSU Learning Commons/Library Discussion Room.

The study, conducted by Ms. Amelyn L. Laro, RSW, MASW, aimed to gather relevant information on Gender and Development (GAD) programs, initiatives, accomplishments, and outcomes among State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the Visayas Region. The research seeks to provide a comprehensive assessment of gender development efforts in higher education institutions and generate insights that may contribute to the enhancement of GAD policies and programs.

With the approval and support of the University Management, SLSU gathered active key informants including the Head for Gender and Development (GAD), Ms. Shyn Luege Villaflores, along with the GAD Focals, and SLSU faculty and Staff, namely: Ms. Liezza Noelle Malinao, Dr. Jomari C. Salar, Dr. Stella Lucie Abaa, and Mr. Marsley Riveral.

During the activity, participants provided valuable data and insights that will contribute to the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the study. Discussions highlighted the University's ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality, inclusivity, and responsive governance through various GAD-related programs and services.

The research is expected to generate meaningful findings that will help strengthen gender-responsive policies and programs not only within SLSU but also among other State Universities and Colleges in Eastern Visayas Region. The outcomes of the study may serve as a basis for future planning, policy formulation, and institutional development initiatives aimed at fostering gender equality and empowerment in higher education.
