SLSU Champions Innovation and Resilient Agriculture at Southern Leyte’s 66th Provincehood Celebration

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte — In solidarity with the province's milestone celebration, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) joins the grand Agri-Aqua Fair and Garden Show, showcasing its cutting-edge research, local innovations, and institutional pride. The fair is one of the highlights of Southern Leyte’s 66th Provincehood Anniversary, which centers on the theme, "66 Years of Resilience Amidst Challenges."

Organized by the Provincial Agriculture Services Office (PAGSO) in collaboration with local municipalities, the fair runs from June 24 to July 2, 2026, at the Forest Tree Park, Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City. Guided by the sub-theme "SMART Agriculture for a Resilient Future," the event was officially launched to promote local agribusinesses and strengthen agricultural networks, a mission directly aligned with SLSU’s commitment to regional development.

Visitors to the SLSU booth can explore and purchase a wide variety of unique goods and innovative products that showcase the technological developments and brand identity. The SLSU Main Campus features a premium selection of official gear bearing the SLSU Varsity trademark logo, including hoodies, shirts, varsity jackets, tumblers, umbrellas, tote bags, and mugs. The Center for Organic and Natural Food Research (CONFoR) also features its latest food innovations with healthy, taro-based options such as taro oatmeal cookies and taro cheese sticks. Meanwhile, SLSU Bontoc showcases high-quality aquaculture products, featuring live tilapia and marinated bangus, alongside staple everyday farm produce like fresh eggs and young coconuts.

Beyond consumer goods, the exhibit serves as a vital platform for knowledge and technology transfer. The booth features a range of informational posters and brochures detailing advanced food and machine technologies available for potential adopters and commercialization, highlighting the university's commitment to driving local economic growth. Visitors can also access instructional brochures regarding campus safety policies, making the SLSU display a comprehensive reflection of research innovation, student life, and community welfare.

This successful university-wide showcase highlights SLSU's strategic vision for community empowerment and technological advancement. The university's involved participation is driven by the dynamic leadership of University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, alongside the Vice President for Research, Innovation, Publication, and Extension, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, who was actively present at the Fair Launch representing SLSU and engaging with stakeholders.

The planning, mobilization, and ground coordination of the university's extensive exhibits were seamlessly facilitated by the Director for Extension and Community Outreach Services, Engr. Jonelle H. Tablada. This collaborative feat was made possible through the endless support, dedication, and hard work of the SLSU community, who worked to bring SLSU's achievements directly to the public.

The public is warmly invited to experience the best of local academia and agriculture. Support our students, researchers, and local farmers by visiting the SLSU booth at the Forest Tree Park, Capitol Site, Maasin City.
