SLSU-San Juan, Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum Lamongan hold 4-day Bahasa Indonesia short course for Industrial Technology students

Southern Leyte State University-San Juan Campus, in partnership with Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum Lamongan, Indonesia, conducts a four-day short course on Bahasa Indonesia for BS Industrial Technology students on April 29, May 2, 6, and 9, 2026.

The activity, titled “A Short Course on Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Learners: Enhancing Industrial Technology Students’ Global Communication Skills,” introduces students to basic Indonesian language skills and cultural knowledge as part of their preparation for academic, technical, and professional engagements within the ASEAN region.

Dr. Irmayani, M.Pd., Head of the Language Center and Associate Professor at Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum Lamongan, serves as the lecturer for the short course. She guides the participants through basic expressions, pronunciation, greetings, grammar, sentence construction, industrial and technical vocabulary, conversational practice, and selected aspects of Indonesian culture.

The activity is spearheaded by Dr. Gwendolyn C. Tatoy, Dean, and Dr. Virgilio L. Perez Jr., Head of the Industrial Technology Department. The sessions are conducted through virtual platforms and feature lectures, guided discussions, role-playing activities, cultural discussions, and assessment exercises.

For the BS Industrial Technology students, the course provides practical exposure to a language widely used in Southeast Asia. It also helps them build confidence in simple cross-cultural communication, a skill relevant to technical services, production work, entrepreneurship, industry linkages, and international training opportunities.

The activity forms part of SLSU-San Juan’s continuing efforts to strengthen international collaboration and inclusive education. Under its Gender and Development integration, the course promotes equal participation among students and supports a learning environment that encourages the active involvement of both male and female participants.

Through this initiative, SLSU-San Juan strengthens its student development programs by linking technical education with language learning, cultural awareness, and ASEAN academic partnerships.

The activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 (Quality Education), No. 5 (Gender Equality), and No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
