Student interns from Southern Leyte State University – Tomas Oppus officially conclude their month-long international teaching internship and cultural exchange under the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA Teacher) Project during the culmination program held on May 11, 2026, at Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum.
The culmination program marks the successful completion of an enriching academic and cultural journey for the participating pre-service teachers, who represent SLSU-Tomas Oppus in one of Southeast Asia’s leading teacher exchange initiatives.

Representing the campus are Mary Mae V. Labastida (BSEd English), John France Q. Juanico and Cathyrine A. Perez (BPEd), Ivan S. Sajol (BSEd Mathematics), and Nikki D. Tagbak (BSEd Science), who collectively comprise the university’s 11th batch of SEA Teacher participants.
The event brings together university officials, coordinators, faculty members, and students to recognize the interns’ professional growth, classroom teaching experiences, and cross-cultural learning throughout their stay in Indonesia.
Adding vibrance to the celebration are cultural performances presented by the Filipino student interns, including the traditional folk dance Tiklos and the performance of Pinoy Ako by Orange and Lemons. These presentations highlight Filipino identity and showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage to their Indonesian hosts.

A meaningful highlight of the program is the sharing of experiences delivered by Nikki D. Tagbak, who expresses gratitude and reflects on the valuable lessons gained from the exchange. Her message sets the tone for the awarding of certificates and exchange of tokens, symbolizing appreciation, friendship, and the strengthened partnership built through the SEA Teacher Project.
The successful completion of the internship reflects SLSU-Tomas Oppus’ continued commitment to internationalization and excellence in teacher education, equipping future educators with global competence and cultural responsiveness.
