SLSU Celebrates Innovation in IP Month 2026 Culmination

Sogod, Southern Leyte — Building on the successful launch of its Intellectual Property (IP) Month celebration, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) formally concludes its two-day event, INVENT 2026: The SLSU IP Month Celebration, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, research, and intellectual property development.

The celebration, spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, Publication, and Extension Services (OVPRIPES), is conducted on April 22 and April 29, 2026, via Zoom, engaging students, faculty, and staff across all campuses.

The launching program held on April 22, 2026, sets the tone for the celebration by strengthening awareness on intellectual property and innovation, highlighting SLSU’s continued direction toward research-driven development.

The second day of the celebration shifts focus from awareness to application, emphasizing how innovation is transformed into real-world impact.

The highlight of Day 2 is the presentation of Engr. Ramil T. Uy, DMT, Provincial Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – PSTO Southern Leyte.

In his talk, Engr. Uy underscores the importance of commercialization, emphasizing that innovation must go beyond ideation and intellectual property protection. Instead, it must be translated into practical solutions that benefit communities, industries, and society. He also highlights how DOST supports innovators through funding assistance, technology transfer initiatives, and capacity-building programs.

The session concludes with an engaging Question and Answer segment, where participants actively interact and gain deeper insights into innovation pathways.

As part of the celebration, SLSU launches its IP Month Writing Competitions, encouraging participation from both students and faculty in the following categories: Essay Writing, Poetry, and Letter to the Editor.

These competitions serve not only as a platform for creative expression but also as a strategic initiative of the university—particularly through OVPRIPES—to increase research submissions, publication outputs, and scholarly engagement among its stakeholders.

The event culminates in the recognition of outstanding participants across various categories. In the Poetry Competition, Patrick Monter secures the spot in the Student Category, while Dr. Lorelie J. Paloma takes the honors for the Faculty Category. The Essay Writing Competition sees Jiesyl M. Mamites earn the award for the Student Category, with Ms. Frances Nicole S. Espinosa topping the Faculty Category. Additionally, in the Letter to the Editor category, Ms. Adel Grace P. Gaudicos receives recognition for the Faculty Category.

All winners receive a Plaque of Recognition and SLSU Merchandise, honoring their excellence and contribution to promoting intellectual property awareness.

Meanwhile, the remaining Top 5 finalists per competition category are also awarded SLSU Merchandise in recognition of their creativity and participation.

INVENT 2026 highlights SLSU’s strong commitment to building a culture of research, innovation, and publication within the university.

As part of its continuing initiatives, OVPRIPES announces that more competitions and capacity-building activities are scheduled for the coming months, including a Bibliometric Analysis and Research Writing Competition, which aims to further enhance the university’s research productivity and publication performance.

As the two-day celebration concludes, participants are reminded that innovation is not only about generating ideas, but also about protecting intellectual property, promoting knowledge creation, and translating research into meaningful societal impact.

Through initiatives like INVENT 2026, Southern Leyte State University continues to position itself as a hub for innovation, academic excellence, and transformative education.
