SLSU–Tomas Oppus Student Teachers Lead Global Exchange in Indonesia

Southern Leyte State University–Tomas Oppus Campus (SLSU–TO) continues to strengthen its global footprint as five of its student teachers officially begin their month-long international exchange in Indonesia under the SEA Teacher Program.

Representing SLSU–TO, Batch 11 participants Ms. Mary Mae Labastida (English), Mr. Ivan Sajol (Mathematics), Ms. Nikki Tagbak (Science), Ms. Cathyrine Perez (BPED), and Mr. John France Juanico (BPED) arrived at Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum (UNISDA), Indonesia, on April 16, 2026, where they were warmly welcomed by university officials and faculty members.

The journey of the SLSU–TO delegates began on April 15, traveling from the Philippines to Singapore before reaching Indonesia. Along the way, the student teachers gained meaningful cultural insights and valuable experiences that will enrich their teaching practice and global perspective.

Prior to their departure, the SLSU–TO student teachers were equipped with guidance, encouragement, and support from the Campus Director, Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla; Faculty Dean, Dr. Norlyn Borong; Teaching Internship Supervisor, Dr. Leslie Elisa Cobilla; and program heads of English, Mathematics, Science, and Physical Education.

Upon arrival, a courtesy call and welcome program were held in honor of the SLSU–TO participants. Hosted in traditional Indonesian fashion, the event was led by the university’s rector and key officials, who extended warm hospitality, generosity, and a sense of belonging to the visiting delegates.

Through this exchange, SLSU–TO reaffirms its commitment to producing globally competent educators while fostering sustainable academic partnerships across Southeast Asia. The student teachers are expected to engage in teaching their respective major subjects while embracing new pedagogical approaches and cultural experiences.

The participation of SLSU–TO in the SEA Teacher Program highlights its dedication to excellence, innovation, and internationalization in education. This initiative supports SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive and equitable quality education through global academic collaboration.
