SLSU Conducts Workplace Readiness Seminar for OJT Students
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through the Career Center Services, successfully conducted the Workplace Readiness Seminar for On-the-Job Training (OJT) Students as part of its pre-departure initiatives for students preparing to enter workplace immersion.
The seminar was held in multiple sessions at the SLSU Mini Theater from January 6 to January 16, 2026, catering to OJT students from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED), Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM), Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM), Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE), Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSInfoTech).

The activity served as a complementary program to the academic OJT orientations conducted by the different faculties and was anchored on the SLSU CARE Track (Career Advancement, Readiness, and Empowerment Track), a holistic initiative designed to strengthen students’ psychological, personal, and professional readiness for the workplace. The Workplace Readiness Seminar supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in promoting relevant skills for employment, decent work, and lifelong learning. It also contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by enhancing students’ employability, workplace preparedness, and readiness for productive and meaningful employment.
The program formally opened with registration and preliminaries, followed by a Welcome Address and Statement of Purpose delivered by Ms. Jessa Laarni B. Espinas, Director of Student Affairs and Services, who underscored the importance of preparing students not only academically but also personally and socially for their OJT experience.

Session 1, titled “Understanding OJT as a Workplace Transition and Workplace Attitude,” was facilitated by Ms. Mona Rea Cabalo-Cagurol, Head of Career Center Services. The session focused on helping students understand OJT as a critical transition from academic life to professional work, emphasizing appropriate workplace behavior, communication, accountability, and professional mindset.

Session 2, “Practical Adjustments During OJT,” was delivered by Mr. Roselo Caduldulan, Guidance Counselor. This session focused on developing students’ time management and financial management skills, highlighting effective work scheduling, task prioritization, budgeting, and responsible financial practices essential during workplace immersion.

The seminar continued with Session 3: “Personal Readiness and Well-Being,” facilitated by Ms. Nenita V. Flores, Head of Student Welfare Services. The session emphasized self-care, emotional resilience, mental well-being, and the importance of seeking support when faced with challenges during OJT.

An Open Forum provided students with the opportunity to raise concerns, clarify expectations, and share insights regarding their upcoming training experiences. The program concluded with Closing Remarks from Ms. Irene Marcel Hufalar-Lagua, Head of Alumni Affairs, who encouraged students to view OJT as a valuable learning journey that shapes their professional identity and future career pathways.

Through this initiative, Southern Leyte State University reaffirms its commitment to developing industry-ready, resilient, and responsible graduates by addressing not only technical competencies but also workplace attitudes, life skills, and personal well-being.
