Southern Leyte State U participates in THE Global Sustainable Development Congress '24

Southern Leyte State University has made its mark on the global stage by participating in the prestigious Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand

The University President, Dr. Jude Duarte, along with Dr. James Brian Flores, the Director of Quality Assurance, and Ms. Reinelly Faith Gomba, the Quality Assurance Officer III, were part of the Philippine delegation organized by CHED Commissioner Ethel Valenzuela. They took part in the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024 held in Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand.

During which, Southern Leyte State University was one of the chosen universities to share the university’s take on "Sustainable Development Goals and the Philippine Higher Education Institutions" on an allotted time slot. The participants warmly embraced the insights shared by Dr. Duarte, who highlighted the university's remarkable endeavors in education, environmental preservation, and community advancement.

Through the leadership of Dr. Duarte, a Memorandum of Understanding was officially signed with Assam Down Town University in India, facilitated by Dr. Mrinmoy Basak, the Dean of International Affairs and Head of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science. Within this agreement, both universities are dedicated to using reasonable means to encourage the sharing of academic knowledge, publications, as well as fostering collaborations in research projects among other initiatives specified in the MOU.

The delegates were given a special sneak peek of the Top 10 THE Impact Rankings 2024 before they were officially unveiled. Southern Leyte State University was recognized as a participating institution, achieving a global ranking of 1,501+ in the prestigious list.

SDG 5 (Gender Equality): 1001+
SDG 14 (Life Below Water): 401+
SDG 15 (Life on Land): 401+
SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): 801+

This was definitely an impressive accomplishment for the university, particularly since SDG 15 (Life on Land) is a brand-new SDG.
