SLSU Joins the Nation in Celebrating National Intellectual Property Month with Training Workshops

Southern Leyte State University joins the nation in celebrating National Intellectual Property Month by conducting a series of training workshops to promote intellectual property awareness and protection among students and faculty.

On April 2, 2025, the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) under the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTTO) successfully held an IP Awareness and Patent Search Tools and Strategies Seminar for students under the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN. The session introduced students to the fundamentals of IP and essential patent search techniques relevant to their research and future innovations.

The following day, on April 3, 2025, a Patent Search Writeshop was conducted for 3rd-year students from the Faculty of Computer Studies and Information Technology. This full-day session provided hands-on training on patent searching methodologies, aimed at assisting students in their thesis and capstone projects by incorporating IP protection strategies. This initiative supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by equipping students with the tools necessary for technological advancement and fostering innovation-driven research.

SLSU remains committed to integrating intellectual property education into research and innovation. As part of this ongoing effort, another training session for Industrial Technology faculty and students will be held at the San Juan Campus on April 10-11, 2025. By embedding intellectual property awareness in academic and research activities, SLSU ensures that its students, faculty, and staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to safeguard their innovations, contributing to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by promoting the commercialization and protection of intellectual property.
